The 8 Best Things to Do in Downtown San Diego

02Downtown is three neighborhoods wearing one name: the Gaslamp's neon party blocks, East Village's ballpark-and-brewery grid, and a waterfront with an actual aircraft carrier parked on it. It's the most touristed square mile in the city — and still worth your time if you know which blocks to trust. Eat in East Village, drink on a rooftop, walk the Embarcadero at sunset, and let the hawkers out front of the Fifth Avenue combo joints do the ranking for you.

KNOW BEFORE YOU GO
Parking: garages run $10–40 and spike on game nights — all three trolley lines meet downtown; take one
Surge days: Padres home games and Comic-Con week (Jul 23–26) flood every block — check both calendars first
Gaslamp math: Fifth Ave combo-plate spots with hawkers out front charge double for less — walk one block east instead
